PROTECTION & RESTORATION OF ABORIGINAL SITES
It is the responsibility of the Metro Land Council to protect Aboriginal culture and heritage within our boundaries. Metro staff regularly visit employs fully trained staff sites of Aboriginal cultural significance to ensure their protection is being maintained. In some instances restoration of these sites is also carried out. The restoration of Aboriginal cultural sites is vital if these sites are to be preserved for future generations of Australians.
Vandalism of Aboriginal cultural sites causes much and sometimes irreparable damage. In instances where the damage has not completely destroyed the sites it is Metro’s job to restore the site as best as possible. The Cultural Heritage Unit carries out these works and employees fully trained staff who are skilled in the traditional methods used to restore sites of cultural significance.
